Law enforcement agencies have reportedly arrested an Indian national from Karachi who was living illegally in the metropolis for more than five years.
The accused, identified as Arshad Hussain, was arrested during a raid near Jail Chowrangi in Karachi by the Foreigners Registration Cell (FRC).
“He had arrived in Karachi from Bombay in 2011,” said FRC official Arif Adukat.
“Later he arranged fake Pakistani passports, CNIC, educational and other documents to prove his Pakistani nationality and started living in the country illegally by pretending to be a legal Pakistani,” he added.
The official also claimed to have recovered a laptop, SIM cards, internet devices and Indian and Pakistani passports and other documents from his possession.
“I used to arrange fake documents for Indians to arrive in Pakistan and Pakistanis for travelling to India,” said the officer while quoting the accused.
The concerned officials also said that so far they have not found any clue which could prove the arrested man’s involvement with any foreign spy agency as the investigations are in a preliminary level.
“It has yet to be ascertained that whether it was a routine case or really he had some links with any foreign spy agency and nothing could be said exactly until the investigation is completed,” said the officer.
An FIR No 13/16 under Foreign Act has been registered at the Airport Police Station against the accused while further investigation is underway.
On March 24, security forces arrested Kulbushan Jadhav, an Indian naval intelligence officer working for RAW from Balochistan.
