Opposition Leader in Sindh Assembly, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Khawaja Izharul Hassan has said that water shortage could spark riots in the province in coming days if the issue is not resolved, local media reported on Friday.
The leader of the Opposition in Sindh addressed a press conference in assembly building.
Hassan warned that water shortage would increase in coming days due to hot weather. He demanded the government to take timely action and curb the shortage.
He said that Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly (NA) Khursheed Shah is demanding the Prime Minister (PM) to resign over alleged corruption when he would demand the same from Chief Minister (CM) Qaim Ali Shah.
Hassan demanded Shah to inquire from the Chief Minister about steps he claims he has taken to relieve the locals of their issues.
On the occasion, MPA Khalid Ahmed said that Sindh government led by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) was topping other provincial governments in corrupt practices. The government announced billions of Rupees for four major potable water projects in the last budget but not a penny was issued, he alleged.
The party members said that letters were dispatched to Rangers Director General (DG), Sindh government and Inspector General (IG). Izharul Hassan vowed to write to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) about the issue as well. He reiterated that Sindh government would be responsible if water shortage sparks riots in the different areas.
