PTI to provide admin evidence against people involved in women’s harassment

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to provide recordings, footages and other evidence involving harassment and molestation of party’s women activists during its public meetings in Islamabad and Lahore to the administration in an attempt to bring the culprits to book.

“The party will provide all videos and footages of the public meetings to the administration to help identify those involved in harassment of party’s women activists,” PTI Central Secretary Information Naeemul Haq said in a statement released by party’s Central Media Department on Thursday.

Haq is heading the four-member committee formed by PTI Chairman Imran Khan to investigate the harassment incidents during party’s Foundation Day rally in Islamabad.

Haq held a meeting with other committee members – Nafeesa Khattak, Col (r) Younus Ali Raza and Talat Naqvi – on Thursday and examined the video evidence related to the matter.

One of the committee members told Pakistan Today that they were compiling the evidences and a report would be prepared within a few days.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had also taken serious notice of the indecent incidents, and issued orders for arrest of the accused at the earliest.

The PTI, earlier on Wednesday, cancelled its public rally in Faisalabad, fearing similar incidents. Party chief Imran Khan alleged that the suspects who attacked women during the rally in Islamabad appeared to be goons let loose by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). Khan also said that he had lost trust in the Punjab Police for failing to protect women participants of PTI’s Lahore rally.

In response to PTI chairman’s allegations, Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said he was ready to form a committee, comprising representatives of media and PTI administrators, to identify all the culprits through the National Database and Registration Authority and to award them strict punishment.
