The police on a tip-off apprehended ten suspects who were allegedly involved in the burning to death of a 15-year-old girl last week, local media reported.
According to Abbottabad police, a 15-member jirga called by the Makool village councillor Pervez ordered for the deceased, Amber, to be set on fire. Thirteen members have been arrested for involvement in the case.
The body of the teenage girl was found in a burnt Suzuki van in Donga Gali on Friday.
The body was tied to the seat of the vehicle, which was parked at a bus stop in the village. Another vehicle parked near the van was also damaged. Police shifted the body to Ayub Medical Complex for an autopsy.
The girl was later identified as the daughter of Riasat, a labourer who works in Balochistan’s Gadani area.
The elders of a tribal council community were also among those who were arrested by the police.
Police officials said today the jirga ordered the murder to punish the girl for supporting the alleged affair of her friend with a boy.
A couple of months earlier, Ambreen’s friend Saima was killed for allegedly being in love with a boy.
According to District Police Officer (DPO) Khurram Rasheed, a couple left Makool April 23 for Abbottabad with the girl’s help and a driver named Naseer. A jirga was called on April 28 at Naseer’s home when the couple could not be found.
According to the source, five accomplices of the criminals are on a run and local police is conducting raids to search them. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak and National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Human Rights had also taken notice of the crime and called for strict action against those were involved in the murder case.
Horrifying ! Is not that the Supreme Court of Pakistan has banned convening of such Jirgas and taking so cruel decisions ?
this barbarism, in the "World view".., will always keep Pakistan in the 16th Century..
There is no justice system even in courts……So sad news. Should be punished these jirga mebers as burnt alive like this innocent girl.
Unprecedented barbarity in a nation with a bronze age mindset.
Justice would surely be served if all the accused are sent to gallows. Their executions should be public.
