PM Nawaz takes notice of women harassment at PTI rally

Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif has taken notice of women harassment at Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s (PTI) rally in Lahore on last Sunday and has sought a report from Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif in this regard.

The prime minister has ordered the Punjab government to immediately arrest the accused.

Earlier, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan has postponed May 8 public meeting in Faisalabad after women harassment issue surfaced in Lahore.

Imran Khan said that Punjab Police failed to protect from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) goons. Imran added, “We will ensure exemplary punishment for those who harassed women at the rally”.

Party’s spokesperson stated that the party does not trust Punjab Police with rally’s security anymore. He said that the women participants remained safe and sound during the 126-day long sit-in at D-Chowk.

One of the victims of sexual harassment at Sunday’s rally had submitted an application in a police station against Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) and held the Punjab government responsible for the mistreatment of women.

The victim said that security arrangements made by the party were very good. 10-12 unknown people showed up and created all the mess.
