Islamabad Mayor Sheikh Ansar Aziz has said that provision of clean drinking water to residents is a top priority of the local government and a main pipeline would be laid to the Ghazi Brotha Dam to meet the water requirement of the twin cities for the next 50 years.

He said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was taking a keen interest in the project and the Council of Common Interests (CCI) in its recent meeting had also given its approval.

He said the first business session of the corporation would be held in the mid of this month. The mayor and his deputies are likely to get powers in the next 15 days while the devolution of powers from the Capital Development Authority (CDA) would be completed within two months.

For the provision of recreational facilities to the residents, the local government would expand the Marghzar Zoo, besides upgrading parks, Aziz said.
