Pakistan Agriculture Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO) wheat procurement campaign put wheat farmers in trouble as curtailed target of gunny bags forced farmers to sell wheat on low rates.

The Punjab government has set 10 gunny bags per acre but farmers are given 3 gunny bags per acre. PASSCO has reduced the wheat procurement target to 400’000 gunny bags in Burewala sub-division as farmers produce more wheat and have been forced to sell their crops at a low rate of Rs. 1100 to Rs1150 per 40 kg.

Pakistan Kissan Ittehad (PKI) District President Zulfiqar Awan, General Secretary Chaudhry Mohammad Mehran and Mehboob Minhas have demanded the government to increase purchase targets of the PASSCO to cater to the large production of the wheat crop. They urged the government to take steps without delay to provide a substantial increase in the target review policy.
