The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday issued notice to the Sindh Rangers director general (DG) and Sindh inspector general police (IGP), directing them to submit their respective comments on the petitions seeking whereabouts of missing persons.

SHC bench, headed by Justice Irfan Saadat, took up the petitions filed for the recovery of missing persons Zafar Imam, Naeemuddin, Javaid and Khalid Siddiqui, Muhammad Iqbal and Uzair Ali.

Tahira Begum, mother of missing Muhammad Usman, submitted a petition claiming that her son was detained on 29th April 2016 and he has been missing since then.

Separately, Asma Bibi, the wife Naeemuddin, submitted in the petition that her husband had been shifted to unknown place after being detained on 22nd April 2016.

In another petition, Muhammad Ali, the brother Zafar Imam, submitted that his brother has been missing since 20th April. Ali is resident of Karachi’s Shah Faisal area and the police station within the area’s jurisdiction is cooperating with them.

Similarly, Haleema, the wife of Javaid, submitted that the whereabouts of her husband has not been traced since 18th April 2016.

The petitioners alleged that their relatives are in the custody of law enforcers but the officials are not disclosing it.

Citing Sindh DG Rangers, Sindh IGP and home secretary as respondents, the petitioners requested the court to direct the respondents to produce the detainees before the court.

After the initial hearing, the court issued notices to Sindh advocate general and respondents to file their comments in the next hearing.
