At least five security personnel were wounded in an explosion near Eastern Bypass early on Tuesday, police said.

According to details, a Rapid Response Force team of the Balochistan Constabulary was patrolling in the area when it hit explosives planted by the roadside.

Police officials said unidentified miscreants had planted the explosives and wanted to target security forces. The injured security personnel, identified as Muhammad Tariq, Shahnawaz, Ramzan, Liaquat Ali and Muhammad Javed, were ferried to Quetta’s Combined Military Hospital.

The attack comes a day after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s visit to the provincial capital to inaugurate different development projects.

In April, three terrorists were gunned down by law enforcement agencies near Eastern Bypass.
