Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that urgent steps should be taken to introduce Urdu as the official language as per court directives.
While talking to adviser to on National History and Literary Heritage Irfan Siddiqui on Monday, the premier said that, “Effective steps should be taken for implementing Urdu as the official language because it is a constitutional requirement. Solid planning should be worked out to pass on thoughts of Allama Iqbal to the new generation”.
Siddiqui appraised the performance of the PM’s division with particular reference to steps taken by it for implementing Urdu as official language.
The prime minister congratulated Siddiqui for holding a successful book fair under the banner of the National Book Foundation saying such activities should be promoted at the provincial level as well.
Nawaz stressed that promoting literary activities was a must to overcome extremist tendencies.
