Hearing of Baldia Town factory fire case has been adjourned until May 28 while the city court refused to accept copy of joint investigation team’s (JIT) report, local media reported on Monday.
The court reissued non-bailable arrest warrant of fugitive, Mansoor, the General Manager of the ill-fated factory and ordered authorities to present original report of the investigation in next hearing.
Additional District and Sessions Judge West Maqbool Ahmed Memon was presented a 214-page copy of JIT’s report. The court ordered authorities concerned to take action against investigation officer in the case, Jahanzaib.
The investigation officer appeared before the court later than the due time upon which the court reprimanded him. The latecomer told the court he was under the weather but the court stated that he was not serious in the case.
A factory in Karachi’s Baldia Town was allegedly set on fire in September 2012. A political party was alleged of the crime citing non-compliance with extortion demands the reason behind.
One of the persons mentioned in the factory case, Anees Qaimkhani, a former Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) member recently returned to the country and joined ex-mayor Mustafa Kamal’s party.
As soon as Qaimkhani returned to the country with sole purpose of standing with disenchanted MQM fellow, Kamal for his nascent political party, Pak Sarzameen Party, his name was ‘no longer there’ in the JIT’s report.
Over 250 people were killed while at least 600 injured in the fire incident in Baldia Town.
