A recent survey has revealed that thousands of children studying at government schools in the federal capital haven’t yet been provided with course books.
The new academic session commenced on April 11 but 40 per cent of the students have not been provided with course books till now and attend classes without them, reports said.
The National Book Foundation (NBF) and Federal Education Department (FED) are responsible for providing books to the students of educational institutions. Students suffer due to the delay in acquiring text books almost every year.
Minister of State for CADD, Dr. Tahiq Fazal Chaudhry took serious notice of the situation and directed the NBF and FED to ensure provision of books at the earliest possible.
The FED said that the NBF was given directives to complete publishing of course books in time so that the students could be furnished with their individual set of course books in the beginning of the new academic session. Despite these directives the NBF has not delivered the books to the respective educational institutions.
According to a senior officer of the NBF, the students of these schools will be provided with the course books by the end of this month. The official also said that the foundation has setup its printing press to eliminate the issue of publishing. In this regard the PC-1 has been formulated and Rs 9million will be spent on the publication of the required number of books.
The problem remains that there is not a law about rewriting something as your own words, especially for content.
