World Labour Day: Bilawal pays tribute to peasants and worker

Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Sunday paid tribute to the tilling and toiling classes of the country for their contribution and struggle and termed them as the backbone of the nation, state, economy and the society.

In his message on the International Labour Day, Bilawal pointed out that his party drove major support from the tilling and toiling classes. “The PPP’s struggle for the rights of peasants, labour and other working classes has been unmatched in the past. Progress, prosperity and justice to these classes are the prime part of our goals and mission,” he said.

He further pointed out that from rights of trade unions to making them partners in the state industrial and commercial, the PPP also introduced labour policy during the PPP tenures. “Our party understands that a vibrant, sagacious and hard-working labour is key to the pace of national development,” he added.

Bilawal said that people’s government in Sindh had passed the Sindh Employees’ Old-Age Benefits (Amendment) Bill, 2016, and the Sindh Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Bill, 2015, just two days before the International Labour Day which spoke the height of attachment of the PPP to the labour class.

The PPP chairman said that the purpose of launching People’s Labour Bureau (PLB) was to provide an active and energetic forum for the labour and working class to unite and chalk-out strategy for a continuous movement for labour rights. He said the PPP and the labour class of the country had sacrificed together their blood, sweat and tears, and this bond was ready to transform into another generation. Bilawal extended open invitation to all the labour unions, labour leaders and workers to join PPP efforts and struggle for achievement of genuine rights of the labour class in the country.
