PM recognises labourers’ role in socio-economic development of country

 

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to safeguarding the dignity and status of labourers and workers.

In his message on International Labour Day 2016, the prime minister paid glowing tribute to the struggle of labourers and urged them to continue playing positive role in taking Pakistan forward on the path of peace and prosperity.

“Our government remains committed to the goal of achieving economic growth, job creation and a higher standard of living for all workers and their families,” he said.

“We believe in granting labourers their due social and economic status as only prosperous and satisfied workforce can enable Pakistan to participate and compete in today’s highly competitive globalised market economy,” he added.

PM Nawaz said that May 1 is observed as ‘Labour Day’ every year to pay tribute to workers worldwide as workforce is extremely significant for socio-economic development of any country.

He said that committed, hardworking and skilled Pakistanis served as the backbone of national progress and development. “I regard workers as a special group making significant contributions to nation building and achieving sustained economic growth for Pakistan,” he noted.

The PM said that his government was pursuing the agenda of economic revival, including mega infrastructure projects of road networks, motorways and power generation projects.

China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a huge project which would transform the lives of millions of people in the region, the PM said, observing that all these projects could only be completed with the help of dedicated workforce.
