In the leaked screenplay of the sequel to the Pakistani movie Maalik, the plot builds up to the eventual shooting of the members of the national censor board by their very own guards.
“Yes, that is a pivotal scene, that we had wanted to keep a secret,” said Asher Azeem, speaking to reporters at a press conference. “The theme of the movie, like its first installment, is that we are all maaliks.”
In an emotional scene, the film’s protagonist, played by Asher, shoots the head of the censor board, who had banned the exhibition of an “unnamed” patriotic movie that had already run for three weeks.
“It is a moment of catharsis for the protagonist, who kills these anti-national elements who had banned such a beautiful, well-shot, masterfully arranged movie,” he said.
“But, as the film’s pre-roll disclaimer will say, the events of this film are entirely fictional and any resemblance with real individuals or incidents is purely coincidental,” he added.
