Two ‘target killers’ arrested in Karachi

In ongoing targeted operation, Intelligence agencies have arrested most wanted target killer Rehan alias Top from Buffer Zone area of North Karachi on Saturday.

The accused involved in ‘China-cutting’ has confessed to killing more than 15 people.

Separately, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) arrested an alleged target killer belonging to armed wing of a political party in Korangi area.

According to sources, Zulfiqar was jailed in connection with different cases of target killing but he was released on parole during the previous government’s tenure for key tasks.

He has also confessed to killing four people soon after his release.

Zulfiqar has revealed that he has done all this on the directives of Raees Mama, the commander of a political party’s armed wing.

Karachi is Pakistan’s largest and richest city, home to the central bank and stock exchange, a major port and some of the most violent areas of the country.

Many of its sprawling slums are split along ethnic lines, and political parties have been accused of backing armed groups that have carved the city into spheres of influence, a charge they deny.

A major military operation, launched in 2013, is credited with slashing Karachi’s murder and kidnapping rates. But the clampdown has drawn protests from opposition politicians who say their party members have been targeted.
