KP CM says won’t let Soran’s murderer Kumar enter assembly

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak on Friday said that the provincial government was going to move the court to block the issuance of the notification of Baldev Kumar, the alleged murderer of Dr Sardar Soran Singh as member of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly by the Election Commission.

Speaking on the floor of the provincial assembly during condolence reference for the late PTI MPA, the chief minister said that he had consulted the law secretary in this regard. He said that the House would not accept Kumar as a member even if he was able to get relief from the court.

Khattak said that the provincial government will file a petition in the court on Monday to stop Kumar’s notification, adding that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) has said that Kumar’s case will be sent to an anti-terrorism court for trial.

Paying tribute to Soran Singh, Khattak said that the late MPA was an asset of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly. He said that the manner in which he was killed is unimaginable.

Khattak said that he had condemned Singh’s murder several times and had also visited Buner district twice in this regard. He said that due to his good performance and friendly nature, the late Soran Singh had many friends and the vacuum created due to his murder will be felt for long.

The chief minister said that Singh belonged to a poor family and assured the lawmakers that the provincial government would announce a relief package for the bereaved family within next three to four days.

The House later observed one-minute silence to pay homage to Soran Singh.
