Punjab drafts Rs 450 billion development budget

The Punjab government has been working on draft of budget 2016-17 in which roads construction has been prioritised with an allocation of Rs 70 billion in the recommended development budget, while Rs 50 billion has been earmarked for the farming community.

According to details, a sum of Rs 42 billion is likely to be earmarked for the education sector which includes Rs 6 billion for the laptop scheme. Similarly, a sum of Rs 30 billion has been allocated for Chief Minister’s (CM) Subaidari Funds, Rs 18 billion for the energy sector, Rs 40 billion for irrigation, Rs 12 billion for the agriculture sector, Rs 16 billion for urban development and Rs 32 billion for transport, Rs 30 billion for clean water, Rs 13 billion for Punjab Police Command and Control Centre, and Rs 10 million for Kidney and Liver Transplantation Institute. More than Rs 70 billion will be spent on 142 new projects in the province.
