National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Director General Karachi Lt Col (R) Siraj-ul-Naeem said on Thursday said that the NAB was committed to eradicating corruption from the country by adopting zero tolerance policy under the leadership of Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry.

Naeem said this while addressing an anti-corruption seminar for executing and implementing agencies which was organised by the Asian Development bank (ADB) at Avari Towers Hotel in Karachi.

In his address to delegates, he said that projects of billion of rupees were beautifully maintained on papers with very less development on ground. He said the NAB was determined to eradicate corruption through awareness, prevention and enforcement initiatives. He said the NAB was taking preventive measures through formation of prevention committees. The Karachi Bureau was carrying on recovery drive for HESCO defaulters and it had recovered Rs 5,046 million till 21st of April, he added.

He said after the appointment of Ch Qamar Zaman as chairman NAB, he took substantial measures to make the organisation more effective and efficient. Fresh SOPs were formulated having strict timelines to process cases which had made NAB one of the most efficacious and productive anti-corruption agencies, both nationally and internationally, he opined.

The performance of NAB (Karachi) during 2015 as compared to last decade had been praiseworthy and distinctive, he commented. A radical change in the number of complaints had been witnessed compared to the previous years which showed the trust and confidence of people in NAB, he added.

The DG said that the Bureau was utilising all its resources in pursuit of holding the corrupt accountable. An interactive question and answer session was also held wherein he emphasised the delegates to ensure that every penny given for public was spent for the cause.

He appreciated the ADB for conducting the seminar in order to create awareness among people about the ill effects of corruption across the country.
