Commission to investigate all Pakistanis named in Panama Papers: Dar

Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar Wednesday said the judicial commission announced by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would investigate all the persons whose names had been mentioned in the Panama Papers Leaks.

Participating in a TV talk show, Dar said the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and other federal and provincial institutions were bound to assist the commission.

The minister said after the Panama Leaks, the PM addressed the nation and announced to constitute an inquiry commission on the issue headed by a retired judge. Later, he decided to form a judicial commission headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) on the demand of opposition parties, he added.

Dar said only two political parties had demanded a parliamentary commission on the issue while others called for a judicial commission under the CJP.

He said the government had announced the commission’s Terms of Reference (ToRs) and these ToRs were adequately strong for the purpose.

Dar said the PM had presented himself and his family for accountability as his hands were clean and his name was not mentioned in Panama Papers. The names of his three family members were mentioned in the Panama Papers report and two of them were not bound to pay taxes in Pakistan as per law, he added.
