Brother stabs 17 year old sister to death over honour

An implacable brother mercilessly stabbed his 17-year-old sister to death over honour in Karachi, reported on Thursday.

According to details, the incident took place in Mominabad where a ruthless brother Hayat murdered his sister Sumera. The 17-year-old girl continued beseeching the brother for her life but the suspect killed her by stabbing repeatedly.

None of the locals, standing at the spot recording video and taking pictures, came forward to take her to the hospital. The victim succumbed to injuries after one and a half hour while Hayat was seen busy with his mobile phone.

Sources told that Sumera was honour-killed over just a suspicion.

On the other hand, the incident was confirmed by officials at the local police station who also took the suspect into custody for further investigation.

Hundreds of women are murdered by their relatives in Pakistan each year on the excuse of defending family ‘honour’.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had also vowed to eradicate the evil of honour killings in Pakistan after director Sharmeen Obaid won an Oscar for a documentary on such murders.

“A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness” — a film telling the story of a rare survivor of such murders — won the Academy Award for best documentary short at the star-studded Hollywood ceremony.

Pakistan amended its criminal code in 2005 to prevent men who kill female relatives escaping punishment by pardoning themselves as an “heir” of the victim.
