NAB arrests three accused in China-cutting reference

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Sindh has arrested three accused namely Mumtaz-ul-Haq, ex-additional director of Karachi Development Authority (KDA), Akhlaq Ahmed, ex-director planning, and Munir Ahmed Khan, ex-assistant director, Master Plan, from MR Kayani Road on Tuesday.

The accused were arrested in reference no 49/2015 after dismissal of their bail application. An inquiry was initiated regarding land grabbing/China-cutting in Karachi. Subsequently, the NAB chairman constituted a joint investigation team. During the investigation, it has been established that the 13 plots bearing Nos B-149/1 to B-149/13, Block1, Gulistan-e-Jouhar, Scheme-36, each measuring 293.33 square yards were created and constructed upon land reserved for water conduit of KW&SB and high tension line of K-Electric by the officials of KDA in connivance with the officials of Master Plan Department (MPD), KW&SB, and SBCA. A loss of Rs 50,00,00,000 was caused to the national exchequer.

All the three accused are in NAB’s custody and others have been declared absconders. It is pertinent to mention that total 22 accused are involved in this case.
