Hearing of a treason case against the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief was adjourned for an indefinite period due to the non-availability of a bench.
According to details, a three-judge bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC), headed by Justice Ali Akbar Naqvi, was to hear the treason case against the MQM chief on Monday but the hearing had to be postponed due to the stated reason. The new date for the hearing of the case will be announced later on.
During the previous hearing, defence lawyer Asma Jahangir had submitted her written argument in the court. “No person or institute can lodge a high treason case. Only the federal government has the authority to do so. The petitioners are not the aggrieved persons and thus the petition is not maintainable. The ban on the speeches of Altaf Hussain is a violation of the constitution and fundamental rights,” she said.
The petitions, submitted against the MQM chief, stated that he seeks to make Pakistan Army a controversial institution by issuing statements against the military and security institutions.
