Anti-terrorism court (ATC) has sentenced Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) worker to 31 years imprisonment in explosives possession case, a local channel reported Monday.

Haider Ali was found with explosives and illegal weapons in Mehmoodabad area. The criminal was apprehended on November 30, 2013.

On March 22, a court sentenced two workers of the MQM to 13 years in prison in a similar case. Anwar alias Guddu and Sheraz alias Bakri were arrested in March 2013 from Pakistan Bazaar area.

Guddu and Sheraz were convicted in a case registered under attempted murder, weapons act and sections related to police encounter.

Earlier in February, two MQM workers were sentenced to 14 years in prison in a similar case. Naeem alias cockroach and Farhan alias Tidda were arrested in 2013 in Orangi Town.

A major military operation, launched in 2013, is credited with slashing Karachi’s murder and kidnapping rates. But the crackdown has drawn protests from opposition politicians who say their party members have been targeted.
