The IESCO has decided to pay Rs 5,000 per month as honorarium to meter readers who will record accurate meter reading through mobile phones.
“The incentive will be paid on the basis of performance and the meter readers recording correct reading through mobile phones will be entitled to the honorarium,” a source in the IESCO said.
“Electricity theft has dropped considerably with the introduction of meter reading through mobile phones,” the source said.
A letter (No 1780/81) has been issued by the IESCO chief engineer to all superintendent engineers to implement the incentive.
