A local court has issued non-bailable arrest warrants of four witnesses after they failed to appear in an illegal weapons case against Mustafa Kanju, son of former state minister Siddique Kanju.
Judicial Magistrate Akram Azad Awan had repeatedly summoned Idress, Imran, Imtiaz and Ghulam Rasool for recording their statements, but the witnesses failed to comply with the court’s orders.
The court took strict notice of their absence and issued warrants for their arrest. The court directed police to arrest the accused and produce them on April 30.
South Cantonment police had registered a separate case of illegal weapon against Kanju after an unlicenced Kalashnikov was recovered from his custody when he was arrested on charges of killing a youth namely Zain and injuring another.
The court had declared Kanju an absconder on his failure to appear before the court despite being repeatedly summoned in the case.
