Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Malakand, Azad Khan on Monday claimed that Baldev Kumar, a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) councillor from Swat, has confessed to involvement in PTI MPA and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s minority affairs minister Sardar Soran Singh’s murder, local media reported.

The KP minister was gunned down when gunmen on motorbikes stopped his car in Buner district, some 160 kilometres (100 miles) northeast of Peshawar, on Friday evening and opened indiscriminate fire.

Soon after the attack, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack.

In a press conference on Monday, DIG Azad Khan refuted TTP‘s claim, revealing that ‘hired assassins’ were given the task by Baldev Kumar to kill Singh.

PML-N’s Deputy Nazim from Shangla, Alam Khan facilitated the attack by hiring target killers, he said, adding that six suspects have been arrested so far.

CM Khattak also visited the residence of Singh where he offered his condolences to the bereaved family and elders of the Sikh community.

The attack was widely condemned by his fellow lawmakers and rights activists.
