Immunization is very beneficial for children to help them grow into healthy adults. Unfortunately, a large numbers of people in Pakistan assume that the vaccine will reduce the natural immunity against diseases. As a result, they avoid vaccination. A report has been released by Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) that states that 70% of child deliveries in Pakistan were held at home, so immunizing the children should become the top task. In Pakistan, every year, the EPI targets 5.8 million children (up the age of one year) and 5.9 million pregnant women to save them from disease. If nine vaccines are given to a child, he is considered fully immunized. It is recoded that 54% of children were vaccinated in Pakistan. At a provincial level, in Baluchistan, the percentage was very low (only 16%) and in Punjab it’s fairly high (62%). It is my humble request to government and media that should create awareness among the citizens that it is in their own interest to vaccinate their children.
