Court adjourns Dr.Asim’s corruption case until May 6

Accountability court (AC) has adjourned hearing of corruption reference against former petroleum minister Dr Asim Hussain till May 6 on absence of state counsel, local media reported.

Reference pertaining to illegal allotment, corruption and pocketing commission was heard by a Karachi court.

Dr Hussain was to be indicted today in the case however it was deferred. Meanwhile, the accused requested the court to permit him a visit to UAS embassy as according to him, it was crucial for proclaimed offender in the case, Abdul Hameed’s return from Dubai.

He is needed to sign a few documents to make his return possible, he added.

However, the court stated the plea would be heard on Tuesday and adjourned his indictment until May 6.

The PPP member, while talking to the media after the hearing lauded Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif’s efforts to end terrorism. The alleged corrupt ex-minister stated that being in jail, he does not know much about current happenings in the country.

Dr Hussain prayed to Allah Almighty that the army chief bags more achievements in future.

General Sharif dismissed 11 army men last week over corruption that included brigadiers, a lieutenant general and a major general. International media have declared General Sharif most famous of his predecessors.

The former petroleum minister is facing different corruption references filed by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) while a terror case in anti-terrorism court (ATC) for alleged sheltering of target killers and extremists.

Rangers had apprehended Dr Hussain from Sindh Higher Education Commission (HEC) in August 2015.
