There had been a gold rush of sorts, with the begumaat-with-connections going over to neighbouring India to buy designer jewellery there and selling it back home to rich begumaat without Indian connections at three times the price.
Well, upon being taken to the jewellers to check the gold content, it was found out that the items in question didn’t have as much gold as was previously thought. Not nearly enough, in fact.
