MQM rally stopped from marching towards CM House

The city police stopped leaders and workers of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) from heading towards Chief Minister House on Sunday.

The MQM intended to stage a protest against alleged human right violations and enforced disappearances of its workers.

MQM leader Amin-ul-Haq demanded of Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah to hold negotiations with them over the matter of “missing persons”. “We also staged a sit-in over the issue of missing persons in the past and I hope our demands would be met,” he said.

Earlier, MQM leader Kanwar Naveed Jameel had announced to shift the party’s ongoing sit-in from Karachi Press Club to Chief Minister House. The MQM leader has been staging a sit-in for the last two days against what they called illegal arrests of the party workers and non-arrest of the workers’ killers. Jameel said the party leaders and workers would march towards the “captain of Karachi operation”. He vowed that the workers would remain peaceful during their sit-in outside the Chief Minister House. He said they would submit a memorandum to the chief minister also.
