Mumbai Police moves court over Hrithik’s fake email ID

In the latest twist in the Hrithik Roshan-Kangana Ranaut saga, the Mumbai Police has moved a local court seeking issuance of notice to Mail and Media Inc., a US-based firm, regarding information pertaining to an allegedly fake email ID created in Hrithik’s name by an imposter. The latest development comes barely a day after a number of emails sent allegedly by Kangana to Hrithik’s email were put in the public domain. Kangana’s lawyers claim that the actress’ account was hacked when those mails were sent.

According to a report in The Hindu, Hrithik had registered a complaint with Mumbai’s cybercrime cell on March 25, claiming that the email ID ‘hroshan.email.com’ was being used to communicate with Hrithik’s fans and others on the actor’s behalf even though he had nothing to do with the ID.

According to Hrithik, the matter had come to his knowledge when Kangana Ranaut had thanked him for appreciating her acting in Queen, when the two had met at Karan Johar’s birthday party in May 2014. When Hrithik admitted that he hadn’t seen the movie, Kangana told him that she had received an email from the ‘hroshan.email.com’ ID and that she has been corresponding on that ID for several months. Hrithik later clarified that his ID was, in fact, hroshan@mac.com, and he had no association with the other ID.

The domain email.com is run by Mail and Media Inc. Acting on Hrithik’s complaint, the cybercrime cell of Mumbai Police sent a letter to the company’s Chief Technical Officer asking for information about the alleged fake account. The CTO directed the police to the company’s legal team, who replied, “We require subpoena from a court to release such account information. If you are able to provide such document please address it as follows.”

Consequently, the police have now filed the application before the metropolitan magistrate, requesting for a notice to be issued to the company situated in Pennsylvania, US, under section 91 of the Criminal Procedure Code. “If the court does not issue the notice then the police will not be able to probe the complaint further due to lack of information,” the application filed by Cyber Crime Cell police inspector Kalpana Gadekar was quoted as saying by The Hindu.

The two actors have been involved in a legal battle for over a month now, with both slapping legal notices on each other. Hrithik claims that Kangana has been making false claims about them being in a relationship while Kangana maintains that the two were in a relationship and Hrithik is trying to frame her now by hacking her account.
