Death toll rose to three in Karachi as moderate heat waves Saturday claimed another life in Graden area.
The temperature soared to 39C in the metropolitan city on Saturday. According to the Met Office, Karachi will remain in the grip of very hot weather with temperature expected to rise to 40C.
In a statement, the Met office said that Karachiites could suffer from heatwave due to rising temperature and advised citizens to remain indoors, avoid sun exposure and ensure maximum use of water. It further advised citizens to stay under shed during the day time.
Meanwhile, Karachi Commissioner Asif Haider Shah said on Saturday that absence of doctors and negligence of hospital managements regarding heatstroke centers would not be tolerated.
While paying surprise visits to different heatstroke centers established by the city’s administration, the commissioner suspended Medical Superintendent of Sarfaraz Rafeequi Shaheed Hospital as he was found absent from the duty.
After the prediction of heatwave in Karachi, the city administration has established 52 stroke centers in all districts of the city.
Shah urged the hospital managements and district administrations to ensure the availability of recommended medicines and also presence of doctors. He warned that there would be no compromise if negligence was found on the part of management.
He said with the collaboration of health department and Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Sindh, the city administration had taken comprehensive measures to tackle the heatwave. “Besides deputy commissioners, additional commissioners, PDMA and health department, I am also monitoring these measures,” he added.
The commissioner said that they had arranged clean drinking water, medicines and also ensured the presence of doctors for 24 hours in 52 heatstroke centers established in the metropolis.
