Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has expressed solidarity with the protesting dockworkers of Port Qasim and asked the federal government to halt the privatisation of Port Berths. He also warned that his party won’t allow usurpation of the genuine rights of the workers.

In a press statement issued on Saturday, the PPP chairman said that Nawaz Sharif government was bent upon snatching the livelihood of the working classes and selling out the assets to his own party’s business branches and leads. “However, the PPP won’t tolerate such moves and stand by the workers in their legitimate protest movement,” he added.

He recalled that the PPP had the distinction of always protecting the interests of workers by bringing in labour reforms but Nawaz Sharif’s government seemed to be selling with one hand and buying with the other the profit-making units, perhaps for opening up more offshore companies. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari assured the Port Qasim dockworkers of full support from the PPP and that their issues would be raised at every available forum. “The PPP won’t leave them alone in their just struggle,” he added.
