At least five persons including three real brothers died and 18 others fainted and were reportedly in critical condition after eating poisonous sweets on Thursday.
The incident took place when Umar Hayat, a resident of Chak-105 TDA, brought home sweets from a nearby sweets shop located at chowk-111 to celebrate the birth of his grandson.
After eating the sweets, however, five people including three brothers died on the spot while 18 others fell unconscious. The deceased brothers were identified as 20-year-old Irfan, 22-year-old Ramzan and four-year-old Shahbaz.
Three of the 18 victims were said to be in critical condition and were shifted to Nishtar Hospital in Multan.
Meanwhile, two cousins Abdul Ghafoor and Muhammad Ameer also died after eating poisonous sweets purchased from the same shop.
Police personnel have launched an investigation into the matter.
