Nawaz Sharif worth Rs 2b; Imran Khan’s house worth Rs 750m

The Election Commission of Pakistan (EC) on Thursday released the details of the assets of members of the National Assembly. The report shows that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif owns assets worth Rs 1.96 billion. It says the PM has no assets abroad.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has assets worth Rs 45.4 million. His house in Bani Gala, however, is estimated to be worth Rs 750 million.

Nawaz Sharif’s property at Upper Mall, Murree is worth around Rs 250 million. The PM has also received assets worth Rs 1.25 billion in the form of gifts and inheritance.

Furthermore, PM’s son Hussain Nawaz sent him Rs 215.6 million from abroad. The first lady, Kulsoom Nawaz owns property at Hall Road valued at Rs 100 million. She also owns birds and furniture worth Rs 2 million and Rs 4 million, respectively.

Captain (r) Safdar, the son-in-law of PM and husband of Maryam Nawaz has assets worth Rs 100 million. No offshore company has been mentioned under the name of Maryam Nawaz.

Hamza Shahbaz has assets worth Rs 340 million.

Imran Khan’s Bani Gala home was given to him as gift. Khan owns no business inside or outside Pakistan. The residence at Zaman Park is valued at Rs 220 million. Furthermore, Khan owns a Prado car valued at Rs 5 million, as well as two cows and one buffalo worth Rs 0.3 million.

MQM’s leader Farooq Sattar possesses assets worth Rs 2.6 million. His home in Karachi’s P.I.B Colony is estimated to be worth Rs 0.63 million. He owns a car valued at Rs 0.5 million.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman of JUI-F owns property worth Rs 6.8 million and does not own a car.

Chaudhry Nisar has Rs 200.8 million in the bank. However, he has given no estimate of his inherited land. Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, owns assets worth Rs 1.31 billion. He also owes a loan of Rs 320 million. The assets of Minister for Railways Khwaja Saad Rafiq exceed Rs 90 million. MNA Abid Sher Ali has assets of Rs 305.3 million.

The details of National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq were not mentioned in the report.

Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah owns assets worth Rs 48.6 million. Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed’s Lal Haweli in Rawalpindi is valued at Rs 24.4 million.

Once again, Jamshed Dasti has appeared as the poorest MNA. His assets are worth a paltry Rs 2,653. Dasti declared no details of properties.

The ECP used this opportunity of releasing details of politicians’ assets to mint money for itself. Instead of uploading the details of the assets on its website, and making it available for free, the Commission decided to sell the copies of the report for Rs 1,038 each. The copies could only be obtained from the offices of the ECP.
