Chief Justice of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali will leave on Saturday (today) for a week-long visit to Turkey, sources said, adding that he will return to the country on May 1.
In his absence, Justice Saqib Nisar will act as the acting chief justice. Sources said that during his stay in Turkey, Justice Jamali will attend the Turkish Supreme Court’s 54th birthday celebrations.
Earlier on Friday, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry called on Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali at his chambers in the Supreme Court. The NAB chairman presented the bureau’s annual report to the chief justice.
According to sources, the NAB chairman discussed important issues pertaining to corruption cases with the chief justice.
The meeting followed reports that the government has decided to form a judicial commission to probe revelations in the Panama Papers, a massive leak of tax documents from a law firm managing offshore shell companies in the tax haven of Panama.
