PM Nawaz discusses Panama Leaks investigation with federal ministers

Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif has chaired a meeting of federal ministers to discuss the course of investigations pertaining to Panama leaks, local media reported Thursday.

Sources privy to the government stated that the high-level meeting, underway in the federal capital is discussing possibility of Chief Justice of Pakistan, Anwar Zaheer Jamali-led commissions establishment to probe the leaks of the Panama-based law firm that tangled Sharif family.

The meeting is also reviewing current political setting in the country. While addressing the participants, Prime Minister said that the government took steps to better performance of different institutions.

PM Nawaz said that the government is following an efficient policy to counter energy crisis while policies regarding economic growth have also been fruitful.

Country’s political leadership has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against terrorism and extremist outfits, he added. The Prime Minister further said that Operation Zarb-e-Azb crippled terrorists’ network and hold in tribal areas.

Earlier this month, Panama Papers had published leaked documents from a law firm revealing offshore companies and tax havens used by at least 140 world leaders including Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s family.

Prime Minister paid a visit to London citing medical checkup the reason behind, however, the opposition parties including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) alleged the government of trying to cover up its corruption.

However, PTI leader Imran Khan is adamant on the formation of a CJP-led commission to probe the leaks and alleged corruption against Prime Minister’s family. He has warned of staging a sit-in in Lahore’s Jati Umra if the government does not hold the impartial probe.

  1. Just pathetic. Look at the faces and you get the mood. The main issue was how to once again dodge the law and get away! All those present are experts on the issue but there is always a first time…………………….

  2. What is there to probe? It is quite clear in black & white PM's family is implicated in offshore accounts in Panama on top of hoarding huge sums in UK and Switzerland PM should resign immediately as well as bring back stolen Pakistani funds. It is laughable government discussing energy crisis when an announcement has already been made of how many hours the load shedding will be during summer months! As long as the Whabi Scums headquarters the Lal Masjid is not shut down in the capital city where all terrorist blasts are planned terrorism will never end in Pakistan.
