The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday was informed by the counsel of Ansar Burney that there is no law to provide guidelines for protocol duties.
A SHC bench, headed by Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, was hearing a petition filed by Ansar Burney, who heads Ansar Burney Trust International, Sarim Burney and Human Rights Commission of Pakistan seeking an end to VIP protocol given to the government officials as according to them it is the violation of fundamental rights of citizens.
In Thursday’s hearing, the petitioner’s counsel Shagufta Burney submitted that as per a letter of law department there is no law in the field which provides guidelines for protocol duties.
The additional advocate general Sindh, Ghulam Mustafa Mahesar requested the court to grant him some time to go through the report submitted by the petitioner’s counsel. While accepting the Mahesar’s request the court adjourned the hearing till 10th May 2015.
Earlier, Burney stated that due to VIP and VVIP movements, streets and roads are blocked and the common people are compelled to undergo a great deal of mental torture and anguish which are becoming the source of ever growing frustration, mental illness, irritability, intolerance, frustration and annoyance.
The human rights activist mentioned that he is not against the security provided to officials, but Ansar Burney Trust’s petition is aimed at resolving and ending the lethal effects of such VIP culture which is over-defensive in approach and obstructive in nature.
