The Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak has declared that action against unregistered refugees would be initiated very soon to improve law and order situation in the province.
This he said while talking to the Minister of Afghanistan for Refugees and repatriation (MoRR) Syed Hussain Aleemi Balkhi at Chief Minister House Peshawar on Thursday.
Beside Special Assistants to Chief Minister Muhstaq Ahmad Ghani and Akbar Ayub, Joint Secretary SAFRON, Secretary Home, IGP, Commissioner Peshawar, Commissioner Afghan Refugees were also present.
On the occasion problems faced by registered Afghan refugees, the issue of unregistered refugees and extortion calls from cross the border were discussed. The Afghan minister for refugees and repatriation extended cooperation to the provincial government in registration of refugees in the province.
The CM told the Afghan minister for MoRR that as law and order situation was a serious issue in the province the provincial government had no choice except for a crackdown against unregistered refugees living in the province. He regretted avoiding of registration of the refugees in the province by the federal government despite lawlessness there. “We can no more tolerate unidentified and illegal people residing in the province”, Khattak warned.
He assured the Afghan minister that there would be no injustice with the registered Afghan refugees. Referring to the issue of Pakistani citizens staying without legal documents in Afghanistan, he advised the Afghan government to deal with them with their own laws.
The chief minister suggested removal of mobile towers along both side of the Pak-Afghan border to stop extortion calls and put an end to misconceptions among the two neigbouring countries. On this occasion a joint group comprising additional commissioner, Afghan Refugees Commissionrate, Peshawar, SSP Coordination, Peshawar Police, Director MoRR and Representative of Afghan Consulate was formed to redress complaints of Afghan Refugees and other issues.
The committee will hold meetings fortnightly for the purpose. The Afghan Minister was informed that registration of Afghan refugees would start at Pak-Afghan border from the June 1. Similarly he was informed that list of the extortion calls received from cross the border had already shared with Afghan government.
Khattak on this occasion announced his visit to Afghanistan soon to remove misconceptions between the two countries. The Afghan Minister for (MoRR) welcomed the proposed visit and termed it as a positive move towards establishment of cordial relation between the two governments.
