The Bollywood actor is set to play a brothel madam in Begum Jaan, director Srijit Mukherjee’s Hindi remake of a Bengali Partition tale,Raj Kahini.
The film, produced by Mahesh Bhatt, will highlight the repercussions of the Partition on a brothel’s women who were displaced after the border was drawn. The original Begum Jaan was played by renowned actor Rituparno Sengupta.
The director has announced that he will begin the shoot in June.
“We are on the way to remake the ‘Rajkahini’ that deals with the aftermath of Partition in Bengal. It has been titled ‘Begum Jaan’ and Vidya Balan is playing the role of Begum Jaan. The shooting will begin from June 10,” said Mukherjee at a film screening, reports Indian Express.
“For Bengal and Punjab, the partition is a heart-breaking saga. I wish more movies should be made on this topic,” added the National award-winning director.
