The Supreme Court on Wednesday issued notice to the Ministry of Religious Affairs in the haj quota policy case; however plea filed by tour operators seeking to halt allotment of quota was rejected.

Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed said that purpose of the haj policy is to smooth the haj process for pilgrims and not for the tour operators to make money.

Tour operators’ counsel maintained before the three-member bench headed by Justice Saqib Nisar that the haj policy was against the law and court’s order. A committee was formed for the policy however the federal minister concerned allotted quota himself and had the prime minister approve the summary, he alleged.

The hearing was adjourned till indefinite period of time.
