Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar Wednesday called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and briefed him over proposed inquiry commission on Panama Papers leaks.

Both the leaders discussed establishment of commission and its modalities, sources said, adding that opposition’s demand for a commission under Chief Justice of Pakistan also came under discussion in the meeting.

Ishaq Dar is leading government’s team which has finalised terms of reference (ToRs) for the proposed inquiry commission.

According to reports, Dar briefed the PM Nawaz over his recent contacts with political parties to evolve consensus over the commission.

The PM reiterated his resolve that a commission would surely be formed to probe into the claims, as he pledged with the nation in his televised address earlier this month.

  1. Nawaz Sharif and his cronies forming a commission of inquiry and selecting a retired judge as a head is totally against the practice and spirit of justice which should not only be done but should also be seen to be done. He is trying to rig the process to white wash his crime. With out a forensic audit, there can be no justice. Commission under a retired judge has no powers to request information from foreign sources, a proper commission with the necessary powers can only be a judicial commission under th CJ of the supreme court or a serving judge appointed by him. The inquiry has got to be made public, otherwise it will gather cob webs in a government filing cabinet.
