Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) senior leader Chaudhry Pervez Elahi has advised Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan not to hold a sit-in outside the Raiwind Palace, the residence of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, and instead rethink his plans to lay siege to the ruling family.
The advice was passed on to PTI’s senior leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi who visited Elahi’s residence at Lahore recently to seek political support for a campaign the PTI plans to launch against the prime minister and his family members after the Panama Leaks revealed that the ruling family owned several offshore companies.
The meeting was part of a political consultation process launched on the direction of Imran Khan. Qureshi had been tasked to contact the like-minded opposition parties and seek support for the upcoming campaign against the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government if the prime minister fails to form a credible judicial commission to probe the allegations made in the Panama Papers.
A senior PML-Q leader, Imtiaz Ranjha, who is a close confidante of the Chaudhries of Gujrat, told Pakistan Today that Pervez Elahi had told Qureshi “passionately” that his party would fully back all the steps taken by the PTI as well as other parties.
“However, as far as the plan to hold a siege of the prime minister’s Raiwind residence is concerned, Chaudhry Pervez Elahi told Shah Mahmood to convey to Imran Khan the observation of the PML-Q leader and rethink a new strategy for the protest,” Ranjha said.
Asked why his party was against the sit in outside the Raiwind Palace, Ranjha quoted Elahi as saying that it is against the traditions of Punjab to hold a siege of anyone’s home where women and children are present.
Ranjha said that Raiwind is also known for religious gatherings and any protest may hamper the religious congregation.
With due respect, the Chaudhris from Gujrat are no saints ( Makke de Haaji). All remember how he had arranged the escape of his son out of the country and under the nose of FIA, even if his name was included in ECL. These poli-tics ( blood-sucker politicians) are all corrupt to the core.
