SA adopts resolution seeking SU campus in Hyderabad

The Sindh Assembly on Tuesday unanimously adopted a resolution asking the government to establish a city campus of the University of Sindh at Old Campus of the Model School Hyderabad.

The resolution was presented by Muttahida Qaumi Movement MPA Sabir Hussain Qaimkhani who stated that thousands of students of Hyderbad were unable to get university education due to unavailability of any public sector university.

Initially, there was no mention in the resolution that which varsity’s city campus should be established in Hyderabad which was pointed out by Sindh Education Minister Nisar Ahmed Khuhro. On his pointation, the resolution was modified and was passed by the assembly unanimously.

The House also unanimously adopted a resolution asking the provincial government to approach the federal government for issuance of direction to the electricity supplying companies to stop unannounced load shedding. The resolution was tabled by Pakistan People’s Party MPA Ghazala Sial who said that 23-hour load shedding was being carried out in her area which caused several problems to the people.

“Minister for Water & Power Abid Sher accuses Sindh’s people of committing electricity theft. When there is no electricity, how can we commit theft,” she said while speaking on the resolution at the assembly.

The lawmakers also adopted a resolution seeking ban on the import, sale and purchase of gutka, and betel nut in Sindh province. The resolution was tabled by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Pakistan (PTI) lawmaker Dr Seema Zia who stated that gutka was injurious to health.

“Pakistan ranks third in the countries in which mouth cancer is on the rise. Gutka and betal nut are easily available and children have access to these substandard items with ease. This is the reason that cases have been reported in which people aged five to six years get mouth cancer,” she said while speaking on the resolution at the assembly. The assembly adopted the resolution unanimously.
