Punjab IG must be sacked over flawed ‘Kacha’ operation: Nizami

The search and comb operation ordered by Pakistan Army chief General Raheel Sharif on Monday is the outcome of the Chottu gang fiasco and the suicide bombing at the Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park in Lahore, Pakistan Today Editor Arif Nizami said on Monday.

Expressing his opinion on the law and order situation in the country on his talkshow DNA on Channel 24, Nizami said that Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan had been repeatedly denying the presence of criminal elements and terrorists in Punjab but these two incidents have proved him wrong.

“The Punjab chief minister must sack Inspector General (IG) of Punjab Police Mushtaq Sukhera for failing to come up with an effective strategy against the Chottu Gang,” he said.

Talking about the return of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif from London, Nizami said that the PM would leave for Pakistan on Tuesday night and would resume his duties as per routine. He added that Nawaz did not meet Pakistan people’s Party chief Asif Zardari London but both leaders were in contact there.

“The Terms of Reference (TORs) for the enquiry commission into the Panama Leaks has been finalized. The TOR is a one liner in which it would be emphasized that the violation of Pakistani laws in Panama Leaks would be punishable,” he said. The opposition has rejected the name of Justice (r) Sarmad Jalal Osmany to head the commission and the government must consider someone else to avoid confrontation, he added.

Speaking on the affairs in the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Nizami said that the party should abandon its criminal activities and prove itself to be a true political party.

“Nadeem Nusrat’s press conference in London is tantamount to leveling serious accusations against the Rangers and Army,” he said, adding that Mustafa Kamal has become a serious threat for the MQM as four of its MPAs in Sindh Assembly have joined the party of the former Karachi mayor.
