National debating championship held at UET

The 23rd All Pakistan debating championship arranged by the debating society of University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore to mark its silver jubilee was held at its university auditorium complex.

The 3-day contests attracted more than 50 educational institutions from across the country and a large number of students from various educational institutions attended the event.

Addressing the gathering, UET Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid said that the difference of opinion provides opportunity to look at the topic with diverse aspects, adding that it shows that the nation is diverse.

He urged the youth to play dynamic role for peace, tolerance and harmony in the society and thus project true image of Pakistan.

Dean of Architecture and Planning Prof Dr Ghulam Abbas Anjum said that debating is the best way to express one’s views.

As per results of the competition, King Edward Medical College won the general trophy. In Urdu debate category Zain ul Hassan from GCU Lahore stood first, Shahdab Abbasi from Government College of Science got 2nd position and Fatima from KEMU won 3rd position.

In English category, Naazish from University of Engineering and Technology Taxila stood first, Namra from KEMU and Fahad from FUAST Lahore secured second and third positions respectively.

In the championship, Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) won the prize in category of parliamentary English Debate, while GCU Lahore bagged 1st position in Urdu debates.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid gave away shields, trophies to the position holders, and souvenirs to jury, organisers and other guests.
