NAB to file corruption cases against Balochistan ex-minister, officials

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has decided to file corruption references against former Balochistan minister for food Asfand Yar Kakar and former Balochistan food secretary Ali Bakhsh Baloch among others.

In this case, the two former government officials are accused of embezzling Rs 1.525 billion from Provincial Reserve Center Sariab, Quetta.

The NAB decided to pursue the investigation in its Executive Board meeting held under the chairmanship of NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry at the NAB Headquarters on Monday.

The meeting decided that another corruption reference will be filed against Sheikh Muhammad Afzal, Chief Executive and Director of M/S Harris Steel Industry Pvt Ltd, Lahore and others. In this case, the suspects are accused of obtaining illegal pecuniary benefits through corrupt, dishonest and illegal means causing loss to NIB Bank Ltd.

Another corruption reference will be filed against former vice chancellor Bahuddin Zikria University (BZU), Multan Prof. Syed Khawaja Alqama, former BZU registrar Malik Munir Hussain and others. In this case, the suspects are accused to have illegally established BZU Sub Campus at Lahore by misusing their authority and illegally obtaining benefits to the tune of Rs 960 million.

The Executive Board decided to authorise complaint verification against MNA NA-100 Azhar Qayum Nahra and former MNA NA-100 Mudassir Qayum Nahra and others. In this case, the suspects are accused of having used corruption and corrupt practices to amass huge assets.
