Govt will repatriate 2 million TDPs by May: Jhagra

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra said the federal government was taking measures to facilitate the repatriation of around two million temporarily displaced persons (TDPs) of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) to their native areas.

Jhagra said this during his visit to Bajaur Agency on Monday where he addressed to representatives of tribal jirga.

The KP governor said peace has returned to the region including Bajaur Agency after immense sacrifices rendered by the security personnel and tribal people.

“The time has come to address the sufferings of TDPs,” he added.

The government under a policy has focused on reconstruction and rehabilitation of tribal areas besides ensuring safe and dignified return of TDPs, he maintained.

By May, he said, “two million TDPs would be repatriated to their hometowns”.

The governor visited Agency Headquarters Hospital Khar where he inquired after the health of patients and directed the authorities to ensure attendance of doctors and para-medical staff besides provision of better treatment facility to ailing segment of the society.

Jhagra said the government accorded high priority to communication sector and for this purpose expansion and repair work on Khar-Tehsil Barang would be started soon.

The KP governor said that China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Project would prove to be a game-changer for the entire country including Fata.

He directed the authorities to hold immediate planning to connect roads of Fata with CPEC so that tribal people could also be benefited of this mega project.
