Cities to face 6 hours load shedding in summer

The government has announced its load shedding schedule for this summer. Cities are expected to face up to six hours of load shedding, while villages will face up to eight hours of power outages every day, the Water and Power Ministry said in a statement released Tuesday.

Industries will not face any load shedding during summers, a spokesperson for the ministry said, adding however that, if the need arises even they will face power cuts.

In areas where electricity thefts are reported and bill recovery is low load shedding hours will be longer.

The ministry said in its statement that electricity production in the country had increased as compared the year 2013.

Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali said that all shops should be closed latest by 9 pm in order to save electricity. “If shops don’t close by the timings fixed by the government we will make their owners pay bills according to the industrial tariff,” he said.
